Research the species first
Different Australian ants have very different requirements. Confirm the species, adult size, growth rate, temperature range, humidity, escape risk and dietary needs before you agree to take a colony.
Prepare the enclosure
Start with a nest sized for the colony you have, not the colony you hope to have. Too much unused space can make hydration, feeding and waste management harder. Test every join and escape barrier before arrival.
Food, water and observation
Provide a safe carbohydrate source, appropriate protein and continuous access to water. Remove uneaten food before it moulds. Observe quietly and avoid unnecessary nest disturbance, especially with founding queens.
Plan arrival day
Avoid temperature extremes and long delays. Let a transported colony settle in a dark, stable place before feeding or moving it. If condition differs from the listing, document it calmly and contact the seller through Ants Online messages.
